Reaction Time and Vigilance in Schizophrenia

Abstract
Many studies have reported that the schizophrenic patients have some impairments in congnitive functions, especially in reaction times and vigilance. In this study reaction times and vigilance of the schizophrenic patients were measured by
Dicision-Reaction Timer and Vigilance respectively, which are subtests of Vienna Test System. Reaction times and vigilance of the schizophrenic patients were compared with those of normal controls. decision time, mortor time, and total reaction
time of
the schizophrenic patients were higher than those of normal control. In vigilance, the schizophrenic patients had more omission errors than normal but the number of commission errors in schizophrenic patients was not higher than that of normal
control.
The changes of commission errors during the Vigilance test were not different between the patient group and the control group.
